Disability Politics
Freddie deBoer responds to an Atlantic article about disability politics.
Employment
From a new AEI report: “Collectively, neurodivergent people make up about 15 to 20 percent of the total population, but despite their talents, research has shown they often face significant barriers to employment and economic mobility. This waste of human potential costs the US economy and taxpayers billions in lost productivity and public safety-net benefits.”
Government Support
Eric Jorgensen has a great post about applying for government benefits for disability. He describes one category of disabled people as the “messy middle” — those who are high enough functioning, so parents don’t think they are “disabled enough” to qualify for services. Yet, they can’t live on their own and need support with independent living. This group should absolutely be applying for disability support, but don’t.
