When I started this newsletter back in March 2022, my son was a recent graduate of high school and languishing in program that wasn’t right for him. Ian wasn’t ready for college or work. He was medically fragile, still suffering from the isolation of the covid years, and had several missing pieces in his academic and social growth.
Frankly, I was a full fledged mess then, because I was so worried about him. When I’m stressed out, I research. That’s how I’m wired. I’m forever an academic, even though I’m no longer teaching college.
So, I researched everything about autism and the transition to adulthood for three years solid. I networked with parents, who knew more than I did. I attended three webinars a week put on by various autism and disability organizations. I travelled to special autism schools and programs. I devoured books.
I documented some of my learning curve here on this newsletter, but I was too busy to write everything down. Now, I’m ready. My son is totally on the right track with solid college and work plans ahead of him. So, I’m turning my research into a book.
I’m going to start sharing bits of book draft here. Some of it will be free, some of it will be available to subscribers. Please subscribe. For $8 per month, you’ll support my writing and learn things. Here’s the new “About” page.
